Democrats Hit Rock Bottom on Impeachment and Start Digging

It’s becoming increasingly obvious the tissue paper-thin case to remove President Trump from office is a purely partisan effort based on hatred and revenge.

It’s not quite accurate to say that Democrats’ impeachment efforts against President Trump have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. No, it’s more precise to note the impeachment circus has moved on from the ridiculous to the uber-ridiculous.

That’s hard to believe, given the House’s impeachment inquiry has so far produced such head-scratching moments as Democrats essentially disowning the so-called whistleblower who started this whole shebang, a congressman declaring that hearsay can be superior to direct evidence, another congressman admitting a crucial vote was delayed in a bid to boost TV ratings and, of course, the lack of inclusion of “bribery” or “quid pro quo” – allegedly the raison d’etre for Trump’s impeachment – in the actual articles of impeachment.

How, you may be asking yourself, could Democrats further beclown themselves with regard to the ongoing impeachment sham? Enter Sen. Chuck Schumer in calling for a “fair and honest” week-long Senate impeachment trial featuring new testimony from four key witnesses.

No doubt the upcoming Senate trial will be as fair and honest as the House’s impeachment inquiry that has been unlike any other such endeavor in American history, with its rushed, stacked-deck proceedings that often kept Republicans out of the loop. Is Schumer really ignorant of the notions that politics ain’t beanbag and turnabout is – ahem – fair play? Probably not, but a patina of fairness must be attempted for public consumption.

And speaking of a patina of fairness, there is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s speech to open debate on the articles of impeachment against Trump. Clad in all black to evoke that she is in mourning for the nation in carrying out her somber duty, Pelosi’s performance is a testament to lachrymose posturing and phony fidelity to the Constitution. We’re not supposed to notice that Pelosi had to instruct her fellow minions not to gloat over impeachment, which Democrats keep telling us is a sad moment for the nation.

Yet Pelosi’s performance – even with all of the patriotic props and such – seemed largely perfunctory, as if she didn’t really believe the verbal diarrhea spewing from her head hole. Perhaps that’s because she was not big on impeachment to begin with, seeing it as the counterproductive and altogether political debacle it has long since become. Nevertheless, even she had to finally relent to her rabid base on the i-word. That probably explains why Pelosi has remained relatively silent as impeachment plods on.

As entertaining as Democrats’ Keystone Cops-like incompetence has been, they risk further harming the country by impeaching Trump on a case that is anorexic at best. Impeachment has been politicized – perhaps weaponized – over the last several decades, threatening to make it just another tool to be used against a president the opposition party doesn’t like. The collateral damage this could do to America’s constitutional system is ridiculous.
