ICO and VC master Andrew Romans digs deep at The Expert Dojo.

On Tuesday, eager attendees gathered at The Expert Dojo in Santa Monica for the cryptocurrency event - Blockchain Investing with ICO and VC Master, Andrew Romans. Romans, author of the new book Masters of Blockchain & Initial Coin Offerings, spent no time beating around the bush. It was clear he was there to give genuine thoughts and advice about his passion, blockchain.

A Flawed System

Entrepreneurs pay to pitch. This means smaller companies often pay a large sum of money for the opportunity to present to investors. While sometimes this pays off, often it does not.

Romans had attendees of the event consider this: A young kid takes a group of older men out to coffee. Instead of the older men buying the kid's coffee, the kid buys his own coffee in addition to everyone else's coffee.

That's how the current system works. Logistically, it doesn't make sense.

Blockchain's Potential

There's a massive amount of hype and chatter surrounding cryptocurrency. Add to this how new the whole thing is, the scandals, controversy... It can be difficult to discern what's true.

However, Romans believes blockchain far surpasses the hype. Blockchain is the future. Not the future in a gushy way, but the kind of future that will positively and profoundly effect humankind.

For instance, Privum, a company that Romans is a strategic adviser for. Privum is what the original internet intended to be. It's a decentralized network that lets anyone, anywhere, use the internet freely and privately. The network is completely secure and built on blockchain.

Romans had attendees consider this: Imagine a gay man in a place like Saudi Arabia. Today, if he was caught searching for gay porn he might be killed for this act. If the man could utilize a different internet, one that didn't trace and monitor his activities, this simply wouldn't be able to happen.

Government regulation of the internet is a massive issue worldwide. Romans told of his own frustrations trying to use WhatsApp in a place like China.  In China, the government blocks WhatsApp, a cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP service. This meant Romans couldn't communicate with people unless he used a Chinese government-regulated app. The ramifications of a censored internet are enormous. Imagine if these perimeters were erased. If the internet was untraceable and free.

Privum is just one of the many innovative and exciting companies utilizing blockchain technology to dramatically shake things up.

Co-Founder of Privum Luís Lavradio speaks via video about his company on Tuesday at The Expert Dojo.
