The iconic Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn had their share of hardships. But they also shared a special relationship that will be revealed in the new Lifetime biopic 'Patsy and Loretta' set for release on October 19.
This looks like a good one— analyzing the friendship between two country greats Patsy Kline and Loretta Lynn - who were both iconic and original the same time. Whether you are a fan of country music or not, the talent of these trailblazers is undeniable. All you have to do is listen to their two signature tunes "Crazy" by Patsy Cline (songwriter Willie Nelson) and "Coal Miner's Daughter" written and performed by Loretta Lynn.
I finished reading a biography about Patsy Cline recently called Patsy: The Life And Times Of Patsy Cline by Margaret Jones. It was an interesting and well-written read. Cline's history was riddled with tragedy - including abuse from her father and abject poverty as a child. However, she rose above this all to establish herself as one of the greatest voices of this century. However, her life was cut short in 1963 at the age of 30 in a private plane crash.
The author delves into exploitation by Cline's record producers, her dallyings with men, financial success, and friendships with other country superstars like Loretta Lynn, who wrote a touching 12-page book introduction to honor her friend.
Loretta Lynn was born on April 14, 1932 and Patsy Cline almost six months later - September 8 of the same year. They both had marriages and children, and both had big, unique voices. Cline took Lynn under her wing - she was established when Loretta Lynn came onto the music scene in 1963. Lynn has gone on to become the No. 1 female recording artist of all time in country music winning multiple accolades including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
A new Lifetime movie entitled Patsy and Loretta will focus on the relationship between Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn.
Megan Hilty (The Good Wife) will portray Patsy Cline, and Jessie Mueller (Waitress) is Loretta Lynn. The singers connect because they both have a burning desire to be successful and express a wide range of emotions through their music.
The film examines the closeness of the women and how Cline delighted in mentoring Lynn. It has to be noted that rather than being competitive, the singers were supportive in a very male-dominated field, especially in that era.
Patsy & Loretta was filmed in Nashville with Executive Producer Neil Meron. The families of the country stars will be co-producing to ensure that details are accurate.
It's uplifting that Patsy Cline's generosity to the now 87-year-old national treasure Loretta Lynn will be chronicled in the biopic, set to be released on October 19.
I could not help but think of this quote by the great A.A. Milne (Winnie-the-Pooh): "You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.” This sounds like the true essence of the late Patsy Cline and undoubtedly Loretta Lynn, too.
To pay homage to her late friend Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn released "I Remember Patsy" in 1977.
