In the light of Justin Amash's epiphany, Republican senators must reconsider their continuing complicity in Trump's lawlessness.

With apologies to W. E. Henley

Out of the youth that molded me,

          Borne on my wit from scroll to poll,

I thanked my God for liberty;

          For my unprisonable soul.

In freedom’s perfect Providence

          Charted I my path packed-proud.

Nature’s laws my only fence;

          Ten commands – one oath avowed.

Beyond me those impressionable years,

          Defending Rightness now is weighed.

Protest my polluted peers?

          Proclaim that Justice shan’t be played?

It matters not how crooked the krait,

          How filled with felonies the ghoul,

Meekly kneel I at Trump’s fete.

          Jailer – captain thou my soul!
