The former SNL comic has a new gig--she will emcee the classic game show debuting next Sunday, October 18 at 8 PM on ABC.

I can't think of anyone funnier than Leslie Jones to host a game show. She is irreverent, animated, and hilarious. The comedian left SNL, where she was a cast member and writer from 2014-1019, 'to pursue other opportunities.' And Jones has landed her dream job.

Do you remember the classic game show Supermarket Sweep? Contestants would frantically sprint up and down supermarket aisles, grabbing goods, in the hopes of winning a grand prize of $5000.

OK, I will sheepishly admit I am a fan of Supermarket Sweep. The original show aired from 1965 to 1967 on ABC. A new version ran on Lifetime from 1990-1995, then PAX TV from 1995-2000, and returned to Lifetime from 2000-2003. The show went away for over 15 years but was returned for U.K. viewers last year with host Rylan Clark-Neal.

Leslie Jones will host ABC's reboot. It's beyond me why the 6 -foot- tall comedian has not received an Emmy for her work yet, in spite of three nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy. However, in 2016, Jones shared the Women Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Female Action Hero for Ghostbusters with co-stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon. The 53-year-old's latest film project was Coming to America 2, Eddy Murphy's sequel that was released this summer. On October 18, get ready, get set, go-- to see the new Supermarket Sweep, that Jones will also executive produce. The format will parallel the 1990-2003 version.

Contestants will have a Q and round. They will answer questions about their knowledge of grocery items, prices, and sometimes pop culture. It's fun, quick, and mindless. You're given up to a minute and a half to give the right response--and sometimes as little as ten seconds. Contestants have to move fast because they're given seconds to retrieve items with the show's logo printed on them. For the final round, contestants move in lightning speed through the aisles grabbing as many groceries as possible to ring up the biggest tab. The winning team goes on for a chance to win a $100,000 in the 2020 version. The maximum prize had previously been $5000.

The SNL alumnus was the perfect choice to emcee the show. Her energy and acerbic wit will keep things moving. Jones has had a long-standing love for Supermarket Sweep. She tried out to be a contestant in the 90s: "A long time ago, I auditioned for the show. I wasn't working. I didn't have no job. Hey, I ain't got no money maybe I could get on this show, win five thousand, and become famous." She wasn't selected. But the good news is Jones eventually nailed a bigger and more lucrative role. See her host Supermarket Sweep next Sunday at 8 PM on ABC.
