Blowout Sunday In NFL

Many observers thought Sunday’s marquee matchup — the Texans visiting the Ravens — might be a shootout, but no one had a hunch that Lamar Jackson and the Raven offense might do all of the shooting! Even though I also did not foresee the blowouts in the NFC South, I picked all three winners in an action packed Sunday.

In a stunning display of power, skill and (most of all) speed, the Ravens totally dismantled the Texans — offensively and defensively — dropping Houston into second place in the AFC South.

The Colts steamrolled the Jaguars to retake that division lead, but in the AFC’s toughest division, I must caution that it is still too soon to forget about the Titans. In the AFC North, the Browns and Steelers are both in free fall (and have players facing suspensions), a strong sign that the Ravens will easily win that division.

In the NFC South, the Falcons clobbered the Panthers — one week after giving them hope by beating the division-leading Saints. Meanwhile, the Saints’ blowout win over the Buccaneers moved New Orleans another leap forward towards locking up that division title.

Yes, the NFC South and AFC North division races look pretty settled to me, and the AFC East picture is also clearing, after the Patriots shot down the Eagles to stay a nose ahead of the Ravens for home field advantage. That outcome also helped the Cowboys, leading the NFC East.

I was surprised by that remarkable slump by both Pennsylvania teams, but my picks last weekend went a stellar 11-3.

The upcoming Week Twelve games look just as exciting. Thursday, the Colts and Texans will tussle once more — potentially with the AFC South crown hanging in the balance. On Sunday, the Panthers will get perhaps their only remaining shot to unseat the Saints. And the Packers will take the SNF spotlight, trying to slow the meteoric rise of the 49ers to the #1 seed in the NFC. Green Bay also needs this win because the Vikings are breathing down their necks in the NFC North division race.

A weekend of fireworks will conclude with the Rams trying to tame those unstoppable Ravens on MNF.

Here are all the Week Twelve contests — and my picks:

Baltimore proved itself a complete team long before its quarterback unleashed another highlight run against the Houston Texans.
