The Wildly Popular Judge Judy Will Start her 20th season and Launch an Original Show 'Your Honor' She Co-wrote and will Co-Produce

I just LOVE Judge Judy; so feisty, so real, so in your face! Her ‘ tell it like it is’ attitude and no holds barred approach to justice always strikes a chord with her audience. That’s why she’s been on the air for 20 years and has been renewed for her 21st season on Sept. 11, 2016; not a trivial feat in the competitive world of television.

Boy, did I always enjoy eating dinner with my parents while we watched Judy on the telly: the judge alternately chewing the fat with petitioners and chastising them in her acerbic way . She actually makes legal stuff fun and interesting. Even the small cases are entertaining.

Judge Judith Sheindlin is a retired Manhattan family court judge. The cases that appear before her in the simulated TV courtroom are actual small claims cases. Participants agree to have the judge arbitrate a decision and accept it.

To me, Judge Judy is ageless (I just read she is 73). She’s streetwise and tough but can show real compassion, too. The judge is particularly sympatico to children and animals.

Now, the hardest working judge on TV, reportedly making $47 million a year, is developing a new drama series called ‘Your Honor,’ based on her life. That’s brilliant! The highly successful ‘Law and Order,’ ‘The Practice,’ and ‘The Good Wife,’ even dating back to ‘Perry Mason’ have all grabbed audiences. People are fascinated with legal drama: the wheeling and dealing of the justice system and the raw emotions of law professionals and litigants alike.

‘Your Honor’ will highlight Judge Judy’s early years as New York’s youngest judge and her life in and out of court; along with her personal struggles.

The pilot was co-written by Sheindlin and Michael Chernuchin of ‘Law & Order.’ who will both also executive produce with Arnold and Anne Kopelson. CBS Television Studios will have another winner on its schedule.

Suffice it to say that I’m psyched about Judy’s new show. I’ve been mulling it over. Who would be salty enough to portray the judge? Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sarah Silverman just popped into my head. But I leave that to the casting pros. Can you imagine saying the lines, "If you live to be a hundred, you will never be as smart as me. On your BEST day, you're not as smart as *I* am on my WORST day" or...”I eat morons like you for breakfast. You're gonna be crying before this is over."

Judge Judy makes me laugh. I remember the episode when she asked a litigant what he was there for: Judge Judy: 'Who are you?'
Witness: 'I'm here for pain and suffering.'
Judge Judy: 'Yours or mine?'

Can’t wait for the new show! I’ll be tuning in……
