A New Declaration of Independence

I heard a statistic the other day that up to 47% of the population identify themselves as independent. It’s time to start acting like it.
As the first candidates, including Democratic Senator Kamala Harris, are jumping into the 2020 presidential race to oppose Donald Trump, it is time for independent minded voters to act independent of the two corrupt, inept and feckless political parties. Our chances are running out to save our country from a gradual death spiral partisan suicide. Both sides “know” they are right on the issues. Yeah, so did the leaders of every other now extinct country, empire or civilization.
Voters, get your heads out of the quicksands of the fruitless games played by Democrats and Republicans to keep you herded as sheep being led to the eventual proverbial slaughter. Yes, I know we need better independent candidates, Jill Stein was ineffectual, and Gary Johnson was lost in Aleppo during the previous election.
Trump was at least partially elected as a disruptor of the status quo. The hope from many voters was that he was blowing up the Republican party from within and taking on the Democratic party from a more independent position. Ok, so that’s been a bit of a disaster so far but that is why we need candidates that are truly independent.
I saw Jill Stein on cable news the other night talking about how we need to change the system to allow for independent candidates to have at least a fighting chance. I completely agree when it comes to debates. Are Republicans and Democrats scared of being exposed as the frauds they are? She is also pushing for rank-choice voting where voters can rank the choices in order of preference on the ballet. I think we just need better independent candidates and for the voters to break free from the spells cast upon them by their party of choice.
Currently there is a great deal of buzz surrounding former Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz. The independent, once Democrat, is floating the idea of becoming the first “legitimate” independent candidate for president in 2020. This, of course, sparked immediate childish taunts from Trump and vitriol from his former friends on the Democratic side, afraid that a run would seal the reelection win for Trump.
Fear not, for when the political parties, desperate to hang on to their perpetually corrupt duopoly get through with him, he will be sorry he ever dared to step out of line, the two-party line that is. Senator Elizabeth Warren is already bashing him for working hard and becoming successful and the Democratic PR firm (MSNBC) has disqualified him due to his failure to correctly guess the price of a box of Cheerios. So, come on down, you’re the next candidate on the Price Is Right!
At this point I don’t know if Shultz is serious or simply trying to sell more books, but his contention that the Republicans and Democrats are failing us is correct. It is time for a new declaration of independence, one from the stranglehold our ruling class currently has and defends at all costs.
