People of Venezuela: as you navigate the ins and outs of these uncertain times in your recent history, may you reap the fruits of your collective labor in getting your country back on its feet.

Dear Venezuelans,

The world is watching. We see your pain. We hear the cries of your children. We listen to the stories of your people fleeing their country. Receive our deepest sympathy.

We also acknowledge the fact that only you, the people of Venezuela, can write your destiny. So you go out to the streets to protest the tyranny, inefficiency, and failure of Nicolas Maduro’s authoritarian regime. You are showing the world the power of the people to topple a strong man. And we encourage you to continue to inspire the rest of the world, showing that power remains in the hands of the people and not in the hands of a select, abusive few.

Democracy, no matter how flawed, is still a better option than authoritarianism. The problem with Venezuela is not so much socialism, as it is about greedy and power-hungry political leaders and business interests.

You have chosen Juan Guaido, Maduro’s opponent, to represent you as your newly elected leader. You reject the tyrant’s manipulation of election results and his brazen disregard for decency. Maduro has shown he doesn’t care much about Venezuela’s economy, much less does he care for the welfare of the people. All he wants is unchecked power and the office of the presidency.

May you succeed in rooting out the main culprit behind the highest inflation rates, violence, and political instability of Venezuela. Once you have succeeded in removing Maduro and his cronies, you can start rebuilding your country from the ground up, ensuring that no one’s left behind. Let the world know the pride of Venezuelans -- your fundamental values, your faith, your culture, and your passion for life.

We hope to see a unified Venezuela with your economy and political institutions back on track. And always be reminded that nation-building is hard work, and it takes time to fix a broken political and economic system.

To Mr. Maduro and his enablers, respect the aspirations and desires of the majority of Venezuelans. Justice does not sleep. It is better to yield as soon as possible and avoid the use of violence to discredit the will of the people. There is still a chance for you to choose to be on the right side of history.

People of Venezuela, as you navigate the ins and outs of these uncertain times in your recent history, may you reap the fruits of your collective labor and get your country back on its feet.

God bless you and your great nation!
