Did I really talk to Santa Clause and the Hanukkah man?

The Christmas tree arrived on Saturday afternoon, during a cold snowstorm. The stand and colorful electric lights were put on the tree, and the tree was placed near the fireplace. We then put the presents under the tree.

Our dinner was served and everyone ate until they were filled. We watched a movie, on the television, about a queen who could turn everything to snow and ice. Since it was late the grandchildren went to bed.

After the grandchildren were settled and asleep, my daughter and I went downstairs and put on our warm coats, and went outside and sat on the porch to talk and watch the snow fall.

While we were out side, we saw a very, very tiny red streak crossing the sky. It was very hard to see through the heavy snowfall. Thinking nothing about it, we went into the house and upstairs to bed.

After sleeping for a while, I was awaken by people talking in the living room where the Christmas tree was standing. I very quietly got dressed and went to the living room. I peeked into the room and there were two men standing and talking, meanwhile, placing presents under the tree. One was dressed in a red outfit, he had a white beard, and another man dressed in a black outfit with a black beard, black hat, and small black braids hanging down from under his hat.

The man in the red outfit, with puffy red cheeks, said, Merry Christmas, and the man in the black outfit said, with a very bright smile, Happy Hanukkah. I did not know what to do or what to say. I was ready to call the police until one the men said, Don’t get scared, we will only be here until we put all the Hanukkah and Christmas’s gifts under the tree.

I’m not scared, I said, but I don’t believe that there a is a Santa Claus and a Hanukkah man.

It’s ok, we get this reply all the time. So, how are the kids behaving?

Good!, I said.

Here are your presents too, the Hanukkah man said with a big smile. I put them on top of the fireplace shelf. Before I realized what was happening, they disappeared up the chimney and were gone.

I heard a noise outside and ran out of the house — it was a sleigh disappearing from the roof into the clouds.

There was a big crash, near my bed in my room, and after I picked myself off of the floor I thought what a dream that I had. The grandkids and my daughter came running into the room to see if I was ok.

The five of us went downstairs to have breakfast and saw all the presents under the tree. And looking toward the fireplace, I saw two more presents sitting on the shelf.

Did I really talk to Santa Clause and the Hanukkah man, or was it a dream?
