Gov. Cuomo...is Not That Great.

Gov. Cuomo takes on MAGA.

By now you've probably heard about New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's remark that America 'was never that great.'

I find this sad on so many levels.

How can a sitting Governor feel this way about a country that he has sworn to serve? How can someone like that be trusted to do a good job? I think it should be a job requirement to be at least a bit patriotic to be a high ranking government official, don't you? Or am I wrong about this?

To me, it's sort of like working for a company where the CEO feels he's cheating his customers at every turn and doesn't quite feel good about it. Not only does he not feel good about it, but he also tells you this. How much confidence would you have in him, in his business, in the job he does?

I think it would serve Gov. Cuomo well to take some time and ask the citizens of America how they feel about America in general. He could start with new citizens, and those who are Permanent Residents that are striving for citizenship.

Maybe start asking these people why they want to be in America in the first place? What brought them here? Why do they stay?

Is America great or not?

Has it ever been great or not?

I can tell you firsthand that many of those that long to be here think it is great. How can I say this? Because my wife was born and raised in Mexico and is now a Permanent Resident of these United States of America. I can tell you confidently that she wants to be here. So much so, that she longs to have her parents here as well.

Trump has called Cuomo out on his comments via Twitter. Of course, Cuomo should've seen that coming a mile away. Instead of taking the high road and refraining to get into a Twitter war of words with the President, Cuomo decided to unleash his own salvo against Trump.

His Tweet was: 'What you say would be 'great again' would not be great at all...We will not go back to discrimination, segregation, sexism, isolationism, racism or the KKK. Like NY's motto says: Excelsior -- Ever Upward (not backward)'

Did Cuomo forget that America abolished slavery? That America has given women many rights, including the right to vote? That America ended segregation and is the author of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1972?

Why is Cuomo overlooking these things? Political gain maybe? If you can get people to focus on the negative, you can make yourself out to be the good guy by fighting for made-up causes. Many politicians follow this line of reasoning, some do it purposefully and some do it naively. In my opinion, Cuomo is not naive. Not at all.

Granted, America's not perfect, but what country is? My wife wants to be here, and so do many others, myself included.

How about you?

What do you think?
