Three Good Men Need to Act Now

Joe Biden, John Bolton, and John Roberts must act now to save the integrity of the Senate and our Constitution.
Joe Biden and John Bolton should go to the Senate and present themselves for testimony.
John Roberts must rule that witnesses be allowed.
It is audacious, perhaps outrageous. However, it is needed to shock the nation back to common sense and fundamental values of American justice.

Biden has stated that he would not testify. He has maintained this stance when the idea of a witness swap was floated in late January. Why change his mind now? The vote to ban witnesses changes everything.
Biden can now testify with no strings attached. No deals, no subterfuge. He will be there to give the Senate a pause to do the right thing. It is an opportunity for him to demonstrate personal integrity and commitment to the Constitution.
Politically, it shifts the media focus to him during the closing days of the trial.
Clearly, John Bolton wants to tell the truth. His testimony would not only help book sales but facilitate its publication by clearing some of the Administration’s roadblocks. It is also a chance for him to demonstrate personal integrity and affirm his lifelong devotion to American ideals.
The Constitution places the Chief Justice in the role of presiding officer so that two branches of government are involved in checking the power of the third and to ensure the trial follows American jurisprudence. Bolton and Biden can provide John Roberts the opportunity to fulfill this role.
The Senate vote to ban witnesses has directly challenged Roberts’ responsibility and duty. Faced with the appearance of Bolton and Biden, he will have to act. He will either override the Senate vote on Constitutional basis, or substantially hurt the power and integrity of the Judicial branch through continued inaction.
The verdict will likely not be affected, but our institutions and values of American justice will be preserved if Roberts stands his ground.
