THE LATEST THINKING
The opinions of THE LATEST’s guest contributors are their own.

All these charges of a stolen election make no sense to me. I'd really like to hear a logical explanation, backed by actual facts.
Nobody likes to lose. We all get that.
But nobody likes someone who wins by cheating.
One of our writers, a Trump supporter, recently submitted a column claiming election fraud. He cited some source that we looked at that was filled with pro-Trump conspiracy theories.
We nixed the column, asking the writer to provide real evidence of voter fraud -- if he could.
Here's why I think there is no fraud -- especially no widespread fraud:
1) We all watched all the vote counters, all across the U.S., as they hunkered down in auditoriums and elsewhere and did the hard work that needed to get done -- under time, partisan and media pressure.
Several vote counters and secretaries of state (overseeing the count) were interviewed by the media -- from Republican states, Democratic states and swing states. One could just tell these were all hard-working, honorable Americans, out to do a hard job under difficult conditions. I think it's shameful anyone would now accuse these workers -- without providing any proof -- of participating in election fraud.
2) The case of Georgia, in particular, is revelatory. The state is run by Republicans all up and down the ladder and the main guy overseeing the vote count is a Republican. And now, after a hand recount, we learn Democrat Joe Biden really did win the first time.
If there is something nefarious going on, how did the Democrats pull it off under the watchful eyes of the Georgia Republicans running the vote-counting apparatus? Is it possible -- just possible -- that Joe Biden actually won and there's simply no other way to spin it?
3) Rudy Giuliani gets in front of the microphone day after day claiming voter fraud. But inside the courtroom, when asked specifically by a judge if the Trump campaign was claiming fraud, Giuliani said "no." Why the difference? Could it be that lying to a judge under oath is a felony while trying to fool the media is not?
4) We have all listened to Donald Trump tell us for years now that Democrats are completely incompetent -- and that Democratic mayors, in particular, can't run their cities right. And yet now we are now being asked by Trump and Guiliani to believe the Democrats are actually so darned clever they could tamper with vote counts across several states simultaneously -- even Republican states -- without leaving a single fingerprint. Amazing.
Part of me is actually glad we are going through all these courtroom battles and recounts. It looks like Trump is on his way to losing all of them. Will he next claim all these judges were bought off by Democrats? Really? Then what?
The writer whose piece we questioned is now claiming THE LATEST is pro-Biden. We have plenty of pro-Trump writers. We're not anti-Trump. What we are is pro-truth.
I think the truth is that Trump's moves are all about money, power, ego. It's time to move on -- for the good of the country.
